Welcome to Tax Season 2022/2023! We hope that the new year finds you in good health and ready for great things in 2023. The IRS has been busy these last few months getting caught up, hiring new employees, and making more and more rule changes and new laws. Most changes are for 2023 and beyond, however a lot of credits will be going back to pre-pandemic era rates for 2022, therefore creating lower refunds. There were no prepaid child tax credit payments in 2022 that we must account for, so hopefully returns will be processed and refunds will be issued quickly.
If you are a California resident you may have received a “Middle Class Stimulus”. The amounts vary from household to household. The Middle Class Tax Refund (MCTR) is a one-time payment to provide relief to Californians. The payments were sent out between October and January of this year. We recently learned that you will be receiving a 1099-MISC in the mail for this payment. Don’t be alarmed if you get this after you drop your taxes off to us. You can either come back to the office and drop it off or use our submit documents feature. If you have any questions please give us a call.
We will be raising our fees a minimum of $25 per individual return, along with our usual charge for additional work or forms completed. Business returns will be increasing as well, depending on the level of complexity, at a minimum of 10%. Due to the excessive costs of mailing and paper we are no longer providing a printed copy of your tax return, we will provide a pdf copy on a zip drive storage device and/or through encrypted email. If a printed copy is requested there is an additional charge of $25 and mailings will be charged accordingly per client. To expedite your return processing, we have implemented “DocuSign” a digital signature format for documents, to efficiently get your E-File sheets and tax returns signed and returned to our office allowing us to stay in compliance with the IRS and to allow us to process your returns faster.
Docu-Sign has a Mobile app that you can download on your smart phone. If you do download it you will be able to keep all your documents in one place, and it makes signing a breeze. If you don’t wish to download the app, you do not need an account to sign your documents. We will be assigning everyone a four digit pin to add another level of safety and security (We will let you know ahead of time what your pin will be). Current email addresses are required for all clients filing a return with us.
If you started a new business in 2022, including partnerships, LLCs, or Corporations please let us know before March 1st. They have a different filing deadlines and requirements, and we need to file an extension as a precaution to avoid very ridiculous penalties.
The filing deadline is April 18th,2023, an extension to May 15th,2023 is granted for disaster area residents. Please get your documents to us as soon as you can to ensure we are able to prepare your returns accurately and timely. All our clients who bring in documents after April 1, 2023, will be getting an automatic extension to file. An extension of time to file is not an extension to pay your taxes, all taxes are due April 18th, 2023. Please contact our office if you need help sending in any payments.
